Agent Tasks are an AI-powered feature that helps you automatically create and update help articles for your knowledge base.
Simply describe what you need, attach relevant files or links, and Fern will research, write, and deliver articles ready for your review.
This feature pairs nicely with Help Center Audits. When you identify common questions and themes in your support inbox, you can ask Fern to create or edit articles in your knowledge base for them.
How to create a task
Creating a new agent task takes just a few steps:
Step 1: Navigate to Tasks
From your dashboard sidebar, click on Tasks. This opens the Tasks page where you can view existing tasks and create new ones.
Step 2: Start a new task
Click the Create task button. This opens a task creation dialog where you can describe what you need.
Step 3: Describe your request
Tell Fern what you want to accomplish. You can ask Fern to:
Create new articles on specific topics
Update existing articles with new information
Research and write content based on help center audit findings
Edit articles for clarity or accuracy
Be as specific as possible about your requirements. The more context you provide, the better your results will be.
Step 4: Add supporting materials (optional)
Enhance Fern's understanding by attaching:
Links to external websites (ex, your changelog)
Screenshots or images
Reference documents or files
Video files or links to YouTube videos
Pro-tip: These materials help Fern create better content faster.
Step 5: Create the task
Click Create task to submit your request. Fern will begin working immediately.

Monitoring and managing tasks
Track progress
Return to the Tasks page anytime to see your task status. Active tasks show as "In Progress" with real-time updates on what Fern is working on. You can even watch Fern work in a real-time streaming view.
Review completed work
When a task finishes, you'll receive an email notification. The completed article appears in your task list marked as "Ready for Review."
Publish or refine
Review the completed article and choose to:
Publish in one click: If the article meets your standards, publish it immediately to your knowledge base
Close and discard: If the content isn't what you needed, discard it and try again with different instructions
For best results, provide clear, specific instructions and include relevant reference materials. Fern works best when Fern has plenty of context about your needs.
